Akzo Nobel India announces Q1 results for 2023-24

Telugu super news,August 3,2023:Today, the Board of Directors of Akzo Nobel India Limited, a leading Paints and Coatings company and maker of Dulux Paints, approved the financial results for the quarter ended 30 June, 2023. 

Q1 FY24 versus Q1 FY23  ·     Revenue from operations up 7% to ₹ 999 crore·     EBIT from operations up 40% to ₹ 143 crore, sustained double digit EBIT margin  ·     Profit After Tax (PAT) up 43% to ₹ 110 crore 

Sharing an overview on the quarter’s performance, Rajiv Rajgopal, Managing Director, Akzo Nobel India said,

“Building on our profitable growth momentum, we delivered a record performance across absolute Revenue, EBIT and PAT in the first quarter of FY24. Demand uptick seen across infrastructure, automotive, marine and oil and gas sectors aided Coatings, conducive real estate drove projects; while semi-urban, rural geographies supported retail growth during the quarter. 

Sequential softening in raw material costs and gains of earlier pricing actions translated to an improvement in gross margins. Favourable operating leverage drove continued double-digit profitability. Operating profit after tax crossed ₹ 100 crore mark per quarter for the first time.”

Managing Director re-appointment:

“The Board of Directors of Akzo Nobel India has recommended the re-appointment of Mr. Rajiv Rajgopal as Managing Director of the Company for a further period of five years, with effect from November 1, 2023, subject to shareholder approval,” said Oscar Wezenbeek, Chairman, Akzo Nobel India.

·     Five new readymade shades in Weathershield Protect: While continuing to protect homes from damaging effects of all forms of weather, especially rain, homeowners can now also enjoy the convenience of five readymade shades – PO Red, Signal Red, Teracotta, Electric Blue and Sunrise – in Weathershield Protect, the high-performance premium exterior offering from Dulux.

New Interpon D3020 powder coatings introduced in India

AkzoNobel’s latest hyper durable powder coating is ideal for architectural aluminum in the most challenging environments and in extremes of hold and cold. Interpon D3020’s fluoropolymer chemistry delivers required film thickness in a single coat compared to three-coat liquid paints, has minimal product waste and eliminates the need for a primer. Matching the levels of warranty on coating performance prevalent in the market, is the fabulous array of colours and finishes, from matts to metallics.

Upgraded Dulux Professional Weathershield Flexx launched for projects 

This popular ultra-premium exterior emulsion is now upgraded with PU-MA (Polyurethane Modified Acrylic) and Silicon Technology. The Triple Defense technology provides excellent protection from the damaging effects of weather (dirt, durst, hairline cracks, extreme heat, water resistance and UV rays) while Advanced Bio pack system counters alkali, fungal and algae formation, resulting in walls looking fresh and staying protected for a longer period.

Performance highlights

Highest-ever performance in Q3 and 9M FY23 across absolute Revenue, EBIT and PAT Q3 FY23 versus Q3 FY22:§  Revenue from operations at ₹986.8 crore, up by 8%§  EBIT from operations at ₹121.8 crore, up by 12%§  PAT at ₹97.4 crore up by 16% 9M FY23 versus 9M FY22:§  Revenue from operations at ₹2,850.7 crore, up by 25%§  EBIT from operations at ₹310.4 crore, up by 21%§   PAT at ₹239.7 crore up by 11%

Commenting on the performance, Rajiv Rajgopal, Managing Director, Akzo Nobel India said,

“In the first nine months of the fiscal year, our robust 25% revenue growth has led to market share gains across businesses.”

He added “We have registered a topline growth of 8% in the quarter led by a strong performance across the Coatings businesses. Decorative paints saw a relatively muted growth, retail markets were affected by monsoon in October but saw an uptick in November and December. Our double-digit profitability was driven by margin management and operating efficiencies.”

Dividend proposal:

“The Board of Akzo Nobel India remains committed to creating value for its shareholders. Hence, based on the performance in the nine months ended 31 December 2022, the Board is delighted to announce an interim dividend of ₹ 25 per share for the year 2022-23,” said Mr. Oscar Wezenbeek, Chairman, Akzo Nobel India.

Sharing an overview on the second quarter performance, Rajiv Rajgopal, Managing Director, Akzo
Nobel India said,
“The double-digit topline growth across paints and coatings was led by pricing actions and marketing
campaigns for key propositions ahead of festive season. Our focus continues to be on improving margins
and cost rationalization.Decorative paints momentum was led by premium portfolio, robust demand from
urban geographies and the conducive real estate sector providing tailwind to projects. Improved demand
from infrastructure, oil and gas, automotive and architecture drove coatings growth”.

BRAND CONNECT: Strengthening consumer connect in the festive season, the new ‘Joy is DIY’digital
campaign was rolled out for Dulux Simply Refresh– the pioneering one-coat multi-surface range of DIY
solutions for decorative paints and home repair needs.


INNOVATION:Akzo Nobel India has signed the letters of intent with the two winners of Paint the Future India
startup challenge. The startups – HyperReality Technologies and Fluid AIwill join the accelerator program
where theywill have access to AkzoNobel’sglobal experts and resources; and will develop a digital value-
proposition that can enhance the experience of Dulux consumers in India.
SUSTAINABILITY: India’s world-famous Blue City has been repainted and refreshed by AkzoNobel as part of a
major “Let’s Colour” project involving 250 homes. More than 5,600 liters of Dulux paint were usedto revitalize
the area surrounding the fort. The roofs of more than 100 houses have been coated with Dulux Weathershield
Protect, which can help to reduce temperatures by up to 5˚C.​

 Q1 FY23 versus Q1 FY22 §  Record quarterly Revenue from operations at ₹937.7 crore, up by 50%§  EBIT from operations up 40% to ₹101.8 crore, delivers double-digit profitability at 10.9%§  PAT ₹76.9 crore up by 1% (up by 30% if we exclude one-time tax provision reversal of ₹16.8 crore last year)

Sharing an overview on the first quarter performance, Rajiv Rajgopal, Managing Director, Akzo Nobel India said,

“We’ve continued our strong growth momentum in paints and coatings to register record quarterly topline. In decorative paints, growth was led by refreshed flagship luxury (Dulux Velvet Touch with Tru Colour technology) and premium brands (Dulux Weathershield Max), supported by new launch in mass segment. Metro and Tier I towns continued to drive growth, while inflationary pressures were felt in semi-urban and rural geographies which had distribution led growth. Demand uptick led by automotive, marine and protective and powder resulted in robust double-digit growth across all coatings business.

Staying on course with its Grow & Deliver strategy, Akzo Nobel India continued to address raw material increase and currency volatility with pricing actions,” added Rajiv.

SUSTAINABILITY: In the aspirational district of Darrang in Assam, our Project Indradhanush is increasing employability and entrepreneurship of women in the local decorative painter community. AkzoNobel has trained over 300 local women, who in turn, are manning the district’s first 100% women owned and operated dealership and 25 stores under a hub and spoke model.
