Sumit Kaul reminisces his childhood days in Kashmir while shooting for Sony LIV’s Tanaav

Sony LIV’s much-anticipated show, Tanaav is all set to premiere on November 11. The show narrates the story of a Special Unit, their bravery, and courage with family at its core. Sumit Kaul, who plays Umar Riaz, describes his shooting schedule as a vacation and reminisced his childhood days. “I didn’t know Kashmiri until I was 13 and started learning it after the exodus of the Pandits from the Valley. The language was all that we carried from Kashmir, our home, that was no longer accessible,” he said.

Adding further Sumit said, “I remembered how my grandmother would ensure she spoke to me in Kashmiri only and wouldn’t respond if I didn’t respond in Kashmiri. Little did I know she was investing in my career as an actor because knowing the language gave me an advantage in portraying Umar Riaz. I think knowing the language adds authenticity to my character which makes it an exciting watch.”

Tanaav is produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Applause Productions. Created by Avi Issacharoff & Lior Raz and Distributed by Yes Studios, the show is helmed by Sudhir Mishra and Sachin Mamta Krishn. The show features an outstanding cast of Manav Vij, Arbaaz Khan, Sumit Kaul, Rajat Kapoor, Shashank Arora, Zarina Wahab, Ekta Kaul, Waluscha De Sousa, Danish Hussain, Satyadeep Mishra, Sukhmani Sadana, Sahiba Bali, Amit Gaur, Arslan Goni, Rockey Raina, M.K.
