Dharani Laveti and Mallesh Vadla cruised into gold with a straight win at the last race of Monsoon Regatta

Hyderabad, July 23 2023: The last race of the Monsoon Regatta turned out to be a well-fought decider and the girls from Telangana alongside NBSC Mandovi Goa grabbed the two gold medals at stake.
Dharani Laveti and Mallesh Vadla cruised into gold with a straight win at the last race and are now national champions in both the Open and the Mixed category of the under nineteen International 420 Class of boat.
In the under-15 girls, it was a tough fight for Deekshita Komaravelly of Telangana but she squeezed into 5th position and beat her closest rival by a single point overall to clinch another gold in this national ranking event after the previous Secunderabad Club Regatta.
Deekshita also finished a creditable 4th overall in the open. Her best career performance so far at a Nationals. “I plan to win the coming Nationals at Bombay and will be practicing for the same within a week”, said a smiling Deekshita on shore after the races.
Deekshita and Dharani are guaranteed spots in the National squad if they continue to perform at this level.
Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, VSM flagged off the last race and spent time with the young sailors inspiring them to bash on regardless to an Olympic podium at the LA Olympics in 2028. “Only hard work, commitment, and perseverance can result in medal-winning performances “she exhorted them in an informal gathering.
“We got Seven Golds, Six Silver medals and 3 Bronzes and the Telangana sailors have done brilliantly this season after many months of hard work, “said a visibly proud Mr. Dadi Bhote, President of the triumphant Telangana Sailing Association that proved its mettle across three back-to-back championships.
Ekalavya Batham of Madhya Pradesh further fortified his win with another clear win in the 12th race
The Boys from NBSC Goa Sharanya Jhadav and Ajay Gajji clinched Silver and Bronze respectively and will now be ranking very high in the National Squad.
The prize giving was held at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad premises at Sanjivaiah Park Necklace Road, and Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, AVSM, VSM Chief of Personnel Indian Navy presided over the function with Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin as Guest of Honour
