Madhapur happens to be the most road accident-prone area in Hyderabad with the highest number of such mishaps. Boddupal, AS Rao Nagar, Kothagudda,Nizampet are other areas which have more or less the same percentage of accidents in the biryani capital of India. These facts were unveiled by ACKO, India’s leading tech-first insurance provider today in its bi-annual edition of ACKO Accident Index 2022.

The Index, which is a report detailing accident trends revealed Madhapura recordedhighest accidental rate at15%, while Boddupal, AS Rao Nagar, Kothagudda all ranged under 10%. The reasons behind the mishaps were mostly ‘other drivers’, animal crossings,rash driving, potholes, and drunk driving were the other reasons.

Another interesting trend brought out by Index was animals posing as a major reason for road accidents. Dogs, cows and surprisingly rats were also a major cause of accidents.

Animesh Das, Senior Director – Motor Underwriting, ACKO, said: “While we often blame bad roads for accidents, the report shows that otherwise. Road accidents and fatalities that go along with it are preventable and can be predicted if proven countermeasures are applied. This Accident Index is just a helping hand for our policy makers and administrators, so that they can place measures across the most accident-prone locations in India that will further help regulate the traffic and considerably reduce accidents.”

Bengaluru:Bengaluru fared the best, emerging as the least accident-prone city with a recorded accident rate of 16%. The bulk of accidents were recorded in Bommanahalli, which registered almost 9% of accidents while Kalyan Nagar registered close to 8% of accidents. The bulk of accidents in Bengaluru have occurred on a 50km-stretch spanning from Bannerghatta to Hoodi, which also faces heavy logjams.

Chennai: Most of the accidents in the city were recorded in the traffic heavy, industrial belts of Guindy that registered close to 19% of accidents while Ambattur recorded close to 14% of accidents while Poonamallee had 13% of accidents.Overall, Chennai registered an accident rate of 18.6 %.

Delhi: Sector 12 of Noida emerged as the most accident-prone area in the Delhi NCR region and accounted for 9% of the accidents. A major cause of the mishaps was ‘other drivers’ followed by animal crossings, potholes, rash driving, and drunk driving. Overall, Delhi registered an accident rate of 20.3%.

Mumbai: Mumbai registered an accident rate of 18.2% where Ghatkopar (West) was revealed as the most accident-prone area accounting for 5% of the accidents. The reasons for these mishaps are similar to those in Delhi.
