Meesho, India’s fastest-growing internet commerce company, posted its best festive sale performance during its flagship Meesho Mega Blockbuster Sale that was live from September 23 to September 27, 2022. Customers placed a record ~3.34 crore orders during the five-day event, up 68% from previous year’s sale, shopping for a wide assortment of products at lowest prices.

In line with Meesho’s mission to democratise internet commerce for everyone, nearly 60% of all orders came from Tier 4+ cities, showcasing how the company’s value proposition of affordability continues to be a significant differentiator. Transacting users jumped by 60% during the sale, which include those who are new-to-ecommerce and shopping online for the first time. From Una in Himachal and Chimakurthy in Andhra Pradesh to Kalimpong in West Bengal, Bharuch in Gujarat and Leh, Meesho’s Mega Blockbuster Sale was instrumental in fulfilling Bharat’s festive shopping aspirations. 

With orders coming in from across the country, small businesses on Meesho saw significant growth during the festive sale event. Meesho’s industry-first zero percent seller commission initiative, which has helped digitise MSMEs at scale, helped them save INR 104 crore in commissions during the sale period. Overall, seller participation in Meesho’s Mega Blockbuster Sale rose 4X from last year, with ~75% coming from Tier 2+ markets and beyond. Nearly 20,000 sellers became lakhpatis  and 24 sellers became crorepatis during the sale event.

During this year’s sale, categories such as ‘kitchen utilities’ grew by 116%; ‘beauty & personal care’ grew by 109%; ‘luggage and travel accessories’ grew by 99%. The top-selling categories included Fashion, Home & Kitchen, Electronic Accessories and Beauty & Personal Care. Products such as sarees, bluetooth headphones, dupattas, lipsticks, mangalsutras, smart watches, artificial plants and juicers were sold in record volumes, demonstrating the value consumers see on the platform.

Meesho’s Maha Diwali Sale will be live between October 7 and 11, showcasing crores of quality products at lowest prices. With nearly 8 lakh sellers and ~6.5 crore active product listings across 30 categories, Meesho aims to become the preferred shopping destination of the next billion Indians.

University of Auckland announces scholarships worth NZ$1.5Million exclusively for Indian students

Waipapa Taumata Rau University of Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading university, has
curated an extensive range of scholarship package for Indian students totalling almost NZ$1.5
million.

The scholarship package featuring over 200 scholarships are available for high achieving Indian
students in 2023. Further, these scholarships will be awarded biannually, with 115 available twice a
year. Each cycle will offer five scholarships up to $20,000, 10 up to $10,000 and 100 up to $5,000. 

Ainslie Moore, Director International of University of Auckland said that “We believe these
scholarships are mutually beneficial and we look forward to welcoming our scholarship awardees to
Auckland.  Our international students add diversity and richness to our campuses and play a major

TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), the internationally prominent NPO devoted to the growth of entrepreneurs has recently witnessed its global flagship TiE Global Retreat at Rome, Italy. TiE Global Board of Trustees bestowed the prestigious ‘Best Support to Women Entrepreneurs’ Award to TiE Hyderabad chapter. This is in recognition of the city chapter’s brilliance in diversity and empowerment, with over 100 successful women entrepreneurs to corroborate the chapter’s triumph. Among other competing chapters were TiE New York, TiE Dubai, TiE South California, TiE London, TiE Atlanta, TiE Delhi, TiE Bangalore, to name a few. These awards were meticulously evaluated by TiE Global Board of Trustees including Mr. B.J Arun, Chairman – TiE Global, and Ms. Smitha Sidhanti, Past Co-Chair- TiE Women, among others.

The award was bestowed to TiE Hyderabad, which was contending against 40 national and international TiE chapters. TiE Hyderabad has a robust system for the development of its women entrepreneurs with structured mentorship programs which have manifested highly successful entrepreneurs. Through these bootcamps and mentor sessions, numerous female-driven startups have showcased progressive results. Today Meta hosted the second edition of the Grow Your Business Summit, its annual event dedicated to the growth agenda of small businesses in India, and announced new working capital support and enhanced service support features for all advertisers in the country. To address the evolving need for working capital, Meta has announced a new financial support feature to ease cash flow for small businesses in India – No Cost EMI.  India is the first country within Meta where No Cost EMI has been launched. 

This feature will allow advertisers to pay Meta for their advertising campaigns in easy, equated monthly installments over 3 months through participating banks at no additional cost of interest to them. Meta will bear the applicable interest payable to the bank, and give it as an upfront discount to the business on its ad spends. Working capital access is a concern for many new and growing businesses in the country. With No Cost EMI billing, they can choose any amount between INR 3,200 and INR 5,00,000 to convert to EMIs.

With several small businesses in India taking to digital and the Meta platforms to reach their customers, they need enhanced support to resolve their queries. Today Meta also announced 24 x 7 chat support for all our active advertisers in India.  This means that day or night, 365 days a year, they get the support you need. Meta launches No-Cost EMIs for advertisers in India 

In 2021, Meta launched the Small Business Loans Initiative, a program that enables business loans for Meta’s small business advertisers through third-party lending platforms. This too was an India-first initiative within Meta. At the Grow Your Business Summit, it was announced that the scope of this program has now expanded to 19000+ pin codes across India, which is almost the entire length and breadth of the country. This means that Meta advertisers from even the smallest towns and villages can now apply for collateral-free business loans from as little as INR 30,000 to as much as INR 1 Crore.
