Telugu super news,India,December 5, 2022: On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on December 3rd, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, was conferred with the prestigious National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in New Delhi by the Honourable President of India. Dr. Reddy’s Foundation received the award under the category ‘Best Placement Agency for Persons with Disabilities’ as recognition of its contribution to the empowerment of persons with disabilities through its community initiative ‘GROW for Persons with Disabilities’ (GROW PwD). The Honourable President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu presented the award to Satish Reddy, Chairman, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd., and Dr. Reddy’s Foundation. Other members of the team who attended the felicitation ceremony included Shamik Trehan, CEO, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, and  Srilakshmi B., Lead – PwD, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation.

In 1999, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation (DRF) initiated the Livelihood Advancement Business School (LABS) initiative for skilling. In 2010, LABS was extended to include a programme for persons with disabilities (LABS PwD). In 2016, LABS PwD was re-modelled as GROW PwD. The programme currently caters to 11 different disabilities, including physical disabilities, vision impairment, speech and hearing impairment, intellectual disability, autism, and others. The programme operates in 16 states and 39 locations, and trains around 5,000 youth every year. GROW has successfully trained over 27,000 persons with disabilities so far with an employment placement rate of 65%. As a sixty-day full-time programme, GROW provides training in core employability skills to aspirants for entry-level jobs across sectors. All training centers are supported by sign language interpreters to deliver training to the youth with speech and hearing impairments.

An exclusive IT platform has been developed to maintain students’ databases, and an algorithm helps match aspirations with available jobs. DRF has also partnered with the Skill Council for Persons with Disability (SCPWD) for greater visibility and impact. It aims to provide advanced level training for graduates with disabilities to place them in multi-national companies, taking training deep into rural areas for skilling and employment opportunities within the local community. This is carried out through a hub-and-spoke programme and also sector-specific training especially in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sectors.

As a company, Dr. Reddy’s is committed to aiming for 3 per cent of its workforce to be comprised of persons with disabilities by 2030. Working towards a more compassionate and inclusive society is a key part of its Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) goals. Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA) successfully organised an expert roundtable on “Regenerative Agriculture for Sustainable Ecosystem and Economy” on 20th September 2022 at ICRISAT, Hyderabad.  Dr. Reddy’s Foundation (DRF) was established in 1996 by Dr. Kallam Anji Reddy, a renowned scientist, entrepreneur and philanthropist and founder of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited. DRF aims to innovate for a better and sustainable future and is focused on enhancing the dignity and well-being of low-income groups.

The purpose of this event is to encourage experts to have an open dialogue where they can share their learnings and also elaborate on adaptation strategies and explore meaningful collaborations and partnerships. Delegates of the roundtable included: Dr. M L Jat, Global Research Program Director, RFFS, ICRISAT; Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA; Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR – Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), and Dr. Mahesh Kumar Gathala Senior Scientist, CIMMYT among other distinguished scientists.

The event elaborated the need for scaling regenerative agriculture for food security and sustainable ecosystem. It also addressed the challenges of implementing regenerative agriculture especially by farmers with small and marginal land holdings. Agriculture scientists and practitioners discussed and shared methods, tools and technologies.

Some of the key takeaways of the roundtable included need for consensus building on implementation of regenerative agriculture (RA) for carbon credits, mapping opportunities for regenerative agriculture nationally and identifying new potential areas that can generate carbon credits. The roundtable also discussed the development of clear package of practices, framework and management protocols suited for different cropping systems encouraging regenerative agriculture, building community of practice (COP), implementing common Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and uniformity in MRV mechanisms and neutral platform to enable tangible carbon credits to farmers. Development of a white paper was also discussed – policy with clear timelines of realizing carbon credits for farmers, evolving markets and demand for the improved quality of credits, strengthening of extension support system at national, state and regional level through whole farm analysis including livestock.

The roundtable further discussed identifying synergies and utilization of ongoing fellowship programs by the Government, incentivisation and support with financial motivation for farmers to work towards RA and adopt carbon farming, encouraging the utilisation of artificial intelligence/ remote sensing Modelling aspects for identification of soil organic carbon and forming of consortium to build partnerships & networks to share learnings, resources and encourage corporate support and investments through coalition at the national level (for policy and strategies) and at the local level to address regional recommendations and agro ecological needs.

Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA) are jointly organizing a consultation of global and local experts on “Regenerative Agriculture for Sustainable Ecosystem and Economy” on 20th September 2022 at ICRISAT, Hyderabad, from 9.00 am onwards.

Dr. Reddy’s Foundation (DRF) was incepted in 1996 by Dr. Kallam Anji Reddy,a renowned scientist,
entrepreneur and philanthropist established and founder of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited. DRF
aims to innovate for a better and sustainable future and is focused on enhancing the dignity and
well-being of low-income groups.
The purpose of this event is to encourage experts to have an open dialogue where they can share
their learnings and also elaborate on adaptation strategies and explore meaningful collaborations
and partnerships.
Among the topics that will be deliberated on include practices and developing technologies for
regenerative farming (especially for small land holders or marginal farmers), how to scale-up and
address some grass root challenges apart from how to explore the huge scope for carbon marketing
in India which could benefit farmers and developmental organizations if we collaborate and engage
in meaningful partnerships.
