The top three triggers for online shopping include attractive prices (57%), convenient return and exchange processes (57%) along with irresistible offers (49%).

The study further revealed that Amazon (73%) is the preferred e-Commerce platform, followed by Flipkart (70%), Meesho (30%), JioMart (20%), and others. 63% of Amazon users report high satisfaction, followed by 52% for Flipkart and 46% for Reliance Digital. Interestingly,Amazon is favored by its users for its attractive prices (54%), easy return / exchange process (52%), brand trust (40%) and convenience of shopping across pin-codes in India (38%). Over the past six months, 73% of consumers from both Tier II and Tier I cities have shopped at Amazon.

Indian Institute of Public Administration, Amazon India Sign MoU; Plan Joint Initiatives to Educate & Empower Online Shoppers

Telugu Super News,Hyderabad,March 14th,2023:The Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) and Amazon India today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration on several joint initiatives, aimed at empowering consumers to shop online with greater confidence.

The MoU signatories have agreed to collaborate to educate online consumers about their rights as well as raise awareness about safe shopping practices and protecting online shoppers from bad actors.

“Amazon is excited to work with IIPA through the Centre of Consumer Studies. Creating a safe shopping environment is crucial to winning and retaining customer trust in our marketplace. We firmly believe that collaborations with like-minded establishments, such as the IIPA, are critical to progress in this direction. We hope that this MoU will be an important milestone for not just Amazon, but for the entire ecommerce industry, to deliver a safe and trustworthy experience for online shoppers,” Chetan Krishnaswamy, Vice President, Public Policy at Amazon India said.

“IIPA is happy to partner with Amazon whose vast global experiences will complement our deep understanding of Indian consumers to aid development of new tailor-made solutions for a safe ecommerce space. Our collaboration will benefit from Amazon’s vast global experience as well as IIPA’s deep understanding of Indian consumers. We hope that our combined strengths will aid development of new tailor-made solutions to address concerns of Indian online shoppers,” S.N. Tripathi, Director General of IIPA, said.

As part of the MoU, IIPA and Amazon have agreed to explore several joint projects, including consumer awareness campaigns to educate online shoppers about their rights and empower them to prioritise their safety; industry dialogues with representation from diverse set of stakeholders to identify issues impacting online consumer safety and find actionable solutions to address them, several training programs for grassroot consumer groups with an overview of Amazon’s best practices and to create awareness for best practices for prevention of online scams and joint research focusing on consumer trust concerns.

Amazon leverages a combination of advanced machine learning capabilities and expert human investigators to protect its customers from bad actors across the globe, including here in India. In 2021 alone, Amazon invested more than $900 million and had more than 12,000 people—including machine learning scientists, software developers, and expert investigators—who are dedicated to protecting customers, brands, selling partners, and the marketplace from counterfeit, fraud, and other forms of abuse.

In addition, IIPA and Amazon will explore conducting several joint knowledge-sharing sessions and webinars for diverse stakeholders. The MoU will complement Amazon India’s recently announced consumer-education initiative, ‘Mission GraHAQ’, that is spreading awareness about safe online shopping behavior, consumer rights and more by engaging them on-ground via innovative street plays.

Amazon Future Engineer completes one year in India providing computer science education and career exposure to more than 4.5 Lakh students

Telugu Super news,India, November4th , 2022: Amazon Future Engineer (AFE), a flagship global computer science education program by Amazon, has completed one year in India. Amazon has supported more than 4.5 Lakh students from over 3000 government schools across 11 states to explore and learn computer science through interactive digital and in person learning interventions. These students in grades 3 to 12, are primarily from low-income families and lack the resources to study computer science or the opportunities to learn about careers that exist in the technology industry. In its first year, the program also supported 200 girls from low income families with scholarships to pursue computer science education.

With support from Amazon, students embark on their computer science learning journey with interactive and practical content which is delivered to students and their educators by AFE partner non-profits. AFE has also set up around 70 AFE labs where children learn to code and also to build live projects using physical computing components like raspberry PIs and sensors. These labs combined with digital assets enable schools to provide a holistic learning experience to their students by experimenting with computers and technology. For AFE Scholars, Amazon provides each student a sum of INR 1.6 lakh over four years along with mentorship from Amazonians and bootcamp style courses to build a successful tech career.

“Amazon Future Engineer was launched in India with the aim of democratizing computer science education so that every child has the potential to become creators and not just consumers of technology. Since the launch of AFE, we have been striving, along with our partner organizations, to support systemic integration of computer science education in government schools in multiple states,” said Anita Kumar, Head – Amazon in the Community, CSR India & APAC. “We provide computer science learning avenues which include interactive learning content based on real world application of Computer Science (CS) in local languages, curated curriculum for schools, courses for teachers in CS, additional recourse person to teach CS and bridge infrastructure gaps where possible. Amazon has now opened registrations for the 2023 scholarship. In its second year, the number of scholarships has been increased to 500 with the last date to submit the scholarship application being 31st December 2022. Girl students who have already gained admission into an Engineering college through a central or state level entrance exam and have the total household annual income of INR 3 Lakh or less, are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Apart from India, AFE program has been supporting computer science education for more than a million children and young adults from underrepresented communities in USA, the UK, France and Canada. The program follows a multi-pronged approach of creating an enabling ecosystem by building the capacities of the students as well as teachers along with developing infrastructure of the schools.

AFE provides Computer Science Explore activities such as ‘Hour-of-Code’ and ‘Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge’ to introduce students to the basics of computer science in an interactive and fun way. The students are also offered deeper computer science learning opportunities like ‘Code-a-Thon’ – a project-based structured boot camp for learning hands on coding and advanced courses on Robotics, Computer Aided Design and Web Design. AFE is also creating digital computer science learning apps like ‘code-Mitra’ and ‘Meraki’ that enable students to learn computer science on mobile devices, often without internet, in their own languages. To present students an early understanding of the wide variety of careers available in the tech industry, Amazon runs “Class Chats” for the students. Amazon employee volunteers deliver Class Chats to spark curiosity among school students, by discussing their career, learnings from their journey and help students not only understand various careers in the tech industry, but also how to get there.

AFE is also enabling educators to teach computer science in a more engaging way and build 21st-century skills in their students. To facilitate this, AFE, in collaboration with various government bodies and non-profits, offers training and coding courses to teachers who want to take computer science to their classrooms.

Participating in one such teacher training session, Surekha Kunjir, Teacher, Pimple Nilakh School, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune, Maharashtra, said, “Earlier, I knew little about the concepts like algorithms and sequencing. This teacher training course has provided me with a broader lens to understand how these concepts are extremely useful for the students and can help students to learn coding in creative ways. Apart from learning to code, the idea is to develop logical thinking and design thinking in students that is emphasized by the technology industry as well. This teacher training course has helped me in understanding these concepts to code and I am integrating these in my subjects. My apprehension about coding is now fading away and even the students are thoroughly enjoying and benefiting from this learning experience.

·        Thousands of Karigar sellers participated in GIF 2022 with 32 emporiums across 23 states garnering 1.3X growth vs average business day

·        Top product categories include Home, Apparel, Furniture, Kitchen, Grocery, and Footwear; most loved art forms were Rajasthani Kathputli, Wooden Craft and Block print.

SMBs saved more with Amazon Business

·        Business customers on Amazon had access to over 15 crore products with GST invoice along with a bonus business cashback, over and above the bank discount and other offers live on Amazon.in

·        Customers loved the specially curated business deals during GIF; we witnessed participation from over 4,75 lacs MSME buyers on Amazon Business

·        Over 6,000 sellers got their first ever B2B order on Amazon during GIF from customers across India

·        We witnessed more than 44% increase in new MSMEs who created a business account with Amazon Business during the Great Indian Festival as compared to 2021

Customers across the country shopped for everything big and small

·        Smartphones: As 5G smartphones become more affordable, the mid-range price segment saw a strong uptake here with around 80% sold in sub 15k category; More than 10 lacs customers bought smartphones for the first time on Amazon.in; customers preferred brands were Xiaomi, Samsung (M Series), realme, iQOO, OnePlus and Apple

·        Consumer Electronics: Laptops, Wearables, Headphones and Tablets were most loved products with HP, boAt, Lenovo, Asus, Apple, Fireboltt, Noise and Sony being the preferred brands

·        Fashion: Over 1.5 million new customers shopped from Amazon Fashion and Beauty with 86% from tier 2 cities and beyond.   Customers shopped for ethnic wear for women and men, men’s shoes, men’s shirts/t-shirts, and fashion jewellery spiked the most customer interest this festival season from brands including BIBA, Janasya, Max, Manyavar, Adidas, Crocs, Yellow Chimes, Zaveri Pearls and more.

·        Grocery and Consumables: Amazon Fresh ordersgrew by 29% vs GIF 2021; Popular products were Oils, Masalas, Dal, Biscuits and Snacks, Household Cleaning, and laundry essentials; popular brands across the festive period were Fortune, Tata Sampann, Aashirvaad, Vedaka, Surf Excel, Mother Dairy, Maggi, and Colgate, among others.

·        Flavour of the season: Customers across the country preferred shopping for festive essentials including decorative lights, dining sets, and home furnishings; Top home & kitchen brands that customers shopped for were Prestige, Bajaj, Crompton, Philips, Havells, Eureka Forbes, Pigeon by Stovekraft, Butterfly, Usha, and Hawkins

·        Large appliances received orders from 75% more pin codes vs average business day with Front load washing machines, high-capacity double door refrigerators, and inverter ACs being preferred by customers

JustAskAlexa:

·        Alexa answered over 4 crore requests during the Amazon Great Indian Festival 2022 to guide customers to product searches, event stores, deals, games, information about products and more on the Amazon Android shopping app

·        Alexa answered around 1,000 customer queries every minute on Amazon shopping app (Android only) during the Great Indian Festival

·        Customers purchased an Amazon Device (Echo, Fire TV, or Kindle) every 4 seconds during the Great Indian Festival. 

Customers could afford more and save big this festive season

·        This festive season, shopping was made more affordable by offers from 7 Banks and 1 payment partner (RuPay); the offers were accessible to almost 80% of India’s credit card base and more than 90% of India’s debit card base

·        Every 8 out of 10 Shoppers had access to credit through products like Amazon Pay Later, Debit Card EMI, Credit Card EMI, NBFC EMI; introduced new options for customers to shop such as cardless EMI purchases on ICICI and HDFC.

·        1 out 4 purchases were made on EMI; 3 out of 4 EMI purchases were on No cost EMI.

·        1.7X more customers shopped using Amazon Pay credit offerings compared to last year

·        3 out of 4 EMI shoppers came from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities

·        2.7X more customers signed up for credit instruments (Amazon Pay Later, Amazon Pay ICICI co-branded credit card) compared to average business day

·        Amazon Pay Later registrations increased by 4X this festive season vs average business day; With 6.5 lacs registrations during GIF 2022, Amazon Pay Later crossed milestone of 6 MM registrations

·        2.5X more customers signed up for Amazon Pay ICICI co-branded credit card during the festive event period

Customer loved redeeming their Diamonds and interacting with Influencers through Amazon Live

·        More than 1 crore customers visited the Diamonds page on their Amazon app; 22 lakh plus customers redeeming their Diamonds to avail cashbacks & win jackpots

·        During GIF 2022, Amazon.in conducted live streams with 150+ influencers with 50 lakh customers viewing the Amazon LIVE sessions

Customers stepped out in big way this festive season

·        1 travel or movie ticket was sold on Amazon.in every second during GIF

·        Customers saved big on their ticket bookings by not paying any additional fees on train ticket

·        Kolkata was the most travelled to destination followed by Goa for flight bookers on Amazon.in

Every year, tens and thousands of associates and partners across our Fulfilment Centers, Sortation Centers and Delivery Stations prepare for the Great Indian Festival. Our Fulfilment Centers, across 15 states provide 43 Mn cubic ft of storage space for seller inventory, we have Sortation Centers across 19 states and over 1950 Amazon operated and partner delivery stations that are gearing up for the festive season, along with 28,000 I have Space partners and thousands of Flex partners ready to deliver smiles to customers across the country. Amazon India has recently strengthened its operational engagement with the Indian Railways, with more than 325 inter-city transportation lanes for the movement of customer packages. This is a 5X increase in railway lanes since it began working with the Indian Railways in 2019 and is one of the enablers for the company to offer 1-day and 2-day delivery promises to customers in the hinterlands of the country. With this expansion, Amazon India now ferries customer packages with the Indian Railways to cities in Maharashtra such as Nanded, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, and Aurangabad among others.
